The aims of the Society shall be to aid in the preservation and development of local history of pioneers and early settlers of the Town of Harmony, and its adjoining area and communities; to acquire and save for public use and exhibition relics, pictures, maps, and articles of historic value, dealing with the economic, political, patriotic, and cultural life of the community, and to cooperate will all other organizations having similar aims and purposes.
The Harmony Historical Society is located in Blockville, NY, which is on Route 474 between Ashville and Panama. The society was established in 1972 to serve the community and preserve local history. It serves the Towns of Harmony and North Harmony which originally was called the Town of Harmony.
The Society maintains six buildings at its Open Meadows Road location. They are a one-room schoolhouse, an 1840's furnished farmhouse, a weaving shed, a barn with local artifacts, a storage shed, and a meeting hall. The Society has a library wher people can do geneology work and other research.
Every Tuesday a group of quilters meet to work on quilting projects for the society as well as other customers. One night a month another quilting guild meets to learn skills and make items for service projects.
There are about 60 members of the Society and we meet twice a month. Once for a business meeting and the other time for a dinner and speaker. The public is invited to any activity and we try to have the upcoming programs announced in the paper. We have school groups come for educational tours and individuals can schedule tours.
We are a member of the WNYAHA.
